I have a secret to tell you. Pinky promise with cherries on top that you won’t tell anyone??? Okay…here goes! I secretly want to be like a child forever. Who doesn’t though right? Nap time and recess sounds good to me everyday, what about you? But aside from that, when I say I want to be like a child forever, I simply mean I want to have the curiosity and wonder like a child. Researches claim that children ages 0-5 learn more in those years than the rest of their life combined. Hmmmm….So why did we decide to grow up? Why did we stop learning? Why did we lose our wonder?
Wonder is necessary for growth, change, and progress. It’s all about being a student, a learner, and even more importantly a disciple of Christ. Proverbs 1:7, “The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” The “fear of the Lord” in this scripture simply means to revere or be in awe of. Wonder is the beginning and ending of knowledge. So how do we awaken wonder in our lives? How do we stir and disturb the sleeping student within us? I believe this…If you have lost your wonder…you have lost your worship.
It’s all about positioning yourself to receive. Worship puts Jesus in His rightful place in our lives. He is Holy, Highly Exalted, The Name Above All Names, and King of all Kings. People are not able to receive from God or anyone from that matter because they are too familiar. We are to worship God acceptably with reverence and awe (Hebrews 12:28). So let me ask you another question. What is your object of worship? What you worship is what you receive from and the problem in our generation is that we have become worshipers of ourselves. Don’t give your life to something small. To worship God is to be awakened to something so much bigger than you and be open to so much more in life. Let Jesus be your object of Worship and believe me when I say it’s beautiful.
So let’s get back to the heart of worship!!! The beloved disciple John wrote that “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” (4:24) Here are a few points I want to share that will help you position yourself at the feet of the Father:
- To worship is to have humility like a child – Kids believe everything you tell them. There’s no reason or explanation needed. They simply believe wholeheartedly. As God’s children that’s all we are asked to do. Just believe. To worship Him in truth is to believe His Word! Believe that He is The Great I Am and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). “And he said: ‘I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3-4
- To worship is to surrender to the Lord – He is God our Savior, but is He Lord of our life? In order to receive from the Lord we need to yield our heart, mind, and soul to Him completely. To worship Him in spirit means to surrender it all and recognize that everything that happens externally is a direct result of what happens internally. Matthew 15: 8-9 says, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.”
- To worship is to be intimate – This is my favorite part of worship; becoming close to the Father. You may think how can we become close to someone we exalt and esteem high above ourselves? Isn’t there a great divide? You’re right! There is a gap that separates us from Jesus Christ; but His LOVE bridges the gap and He welcomes us into His inner court when we see Him as King. It gets even better!!!
Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are Holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been REVEALED. Revelation 15:4
It makes sense that you tell and reveal most to those you are closest to. Well, worship positions yourself to receive knowledge and secrets that no one else knows because you are intimate with the Father! He REVEALS things to you that will encourage, lift up, inspire, help, and aid in your everyday life! It wasn’t a coincidence that the disciple Jesus loved, John, was the one to receive these incredible revelations and visions in the Bible. John understood what it meant to worship and love on our Father. My hope is to encourage you to never lose your sense of wonder! Give your life to something bigger than yourself! Worship Our Heavenly Father and let Him Reveal remarkable secrets no one else knows. Be Blessed! Be Revealed!

May we never lose the Wonder
Wide-eyed and mystified
May we be just like a child
